Small Business Administration (SBA loans)
The SBA offers numerous loan programs to assist small businesses. It is important to note, however, that the SBA is primarily a guarantor of loans made by private and other institutions and does not offer loans to small businesses. All 7(a) loans are provided by lenders who are called participants because they participate with SBA in the 7(a) program. Most American banks make 7(a) loans. There are also some non-bank lenders who participate with SBA in the 7(a) program which expands the availability of lenders making loans under SBA guidelines.

The Small Business Investment Company Program (SBIC) is one of many financial assistance programs available through the U.S. Small Business Administration. The U.S. Small Business Administration does not invest directly into small business through the SBIC Program.
